Blue Springs' Devon Sesler wins Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week award

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - This week's Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week has been an unstoppable force all year long.

Blue Springs' pitcher Devon Sesler is unbeaten for the season; 6-0 with a 2.27 ERA.

The senior has 48 strikeouts in 44 innings of work. It's also his first year pitching for the varsity squad. He spent one year on the freshman team then worked his way up to JV before being called up to varsity this season.

"We have one of the best teams in the state," Sesler said. "I've put all my trust in the team. I'm not a strikeout pitcher. I let our defense do all the work and we're a great team to be around."

Sesler recently pitched a three-hit shutout against rivals Blue Springs South. The Wildcats won the game 2-0.

Head coach Tim McElligott says Sesler has a great attitude on the field. He never stops working and never complains.

"He's just a great kid," McElligott said. "He's a hard worker out here. Devin is the type of team guy that we really want here at Blue Springs. We're really proud and wish him all the best."

Through all of his hard work and dedication to the game, Sesler has earned a scholarship to play baseball at Benedictine University. He will begin classes in the fall.
