BVNW sophomore Clayton Custer earns HyVee Athlete of the Week award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - This week's athlete of the week led his team to state for the second time in two years.

Clayton Custer of Blue Valley Northwest, scored 32 points during the 6-A State Championship game against Wichita Heights on March 10.

The Huskies lost the game 67-60, but Custer has been a dominate force all year long and he's only a sophomore.

"This season was great. Just being with my teammates everyday at practice and at Blue Valley Northwest it's a family", said Custer.

Custer says he hopes to play for KU, K-State or Oklahoma when he graduates.

His basketball coach has enjoyed every minute on the court with Custer.

"He's a fantastic student athlete. He works really hard on and off the court. He's just a great kid to be around" said head coach Ed Fritz.

Custer has a lot of time to decide on colleges, and hopes to bring home a state title to the Huskies in the upcoming 2012-2013 season.
