GRANDVIEW, Mo. - This week's Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week is a rising star in the state of Missouri.
Tyrone Taylor of Grandview High School scored 25 points Friday night to lead his team to victory. The Bulldogs beat Raytown South by two points to remain unbeaten in league play.
Grandview has not lost to a Missouri team this season. They are 6-0 in league play and 16-6 for the 2013-14 season. All of those losses came from Kansas schools.
The main reason for Grandview's success in the state of Missouri is because of the consistent play from their senior guard.
"We're just playing really well, as of late. It's going to be the last time I'll end up playing for these guys", Taylor said. "I'm having a lot of fun."
Taylor averages 19.4 points per game, along with 3.2 assists and 2.1 rebounds.
"He's a very good student. Very well liked in the student body", Head Coach Randy Farris said. "He's been associated with the basketball team for four years. He's been highly successful in everything that he's tried to do."
Taylor has several scholarship offers from Division 1 schools to play basketball. He says he's still deciding which school he will attend next year.
