LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - This week's Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week helped his team remain unbeaten.
Casey Slaughter of Lee's Summit High School rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns Friday night against Raymore-Peculiar.
Lee's Summit won the game in a nail-biter in the fourth quarter 44-38 to improve to 5-0.
"We are just all working hard, doing everything right and doing everything we are supposed to do. We are continuing to fight all the time," Slaughter said.
"It's always a 'yes' or a 'no sir.' He accepts coaching. He's just a hard nose kid and a great kid," Lee's Summit head coach Eric Thomas said of Slaughter.
The senior has already rushed for more than 500 yards this season. He's averaging more than 100 yards a game.
