Pitts steals HyVee Athlete of the Week honors

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Jimmy Cain watched as his team fell behind Rockhurst 11-2 to open the contest. The Blue Springs South head coach knew he needed a big play, and he knew exactly who could provide it. Senior guard Justin Pitts answered with eight straight points.

"Justin can do some really special things on the court. He's capable of scoring in spurts like that."

Pitts finished the night with 26 points. He led the Jaguars to a 58-52 victory.

"It was a very big win for our team. It was a good team effort. We started off slow, but we ended up coming out with the win," he said.

Pitts also broke the school's career steals record that night. Cain said he relies on his senior on both ends of the floor.

"He does a lot. He averages 19 points a game for us. He handles the ball as much, if not more, than anybody," Cain said. "We rely on him to really get after the ball defensively. He's got a lot on his plate."

The formula seems to be working for the Jaguars. They are off to a 11-1 start.
