Sneed won her first 6A regional over the weekend and hasn’t lost a match yet.
PRAIRIE VILLAGE Kan. - This week's Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week is a tremendous tennis player with a surprising story.
Olivia Sneed of Shawnee Mission East won her first class 6A regional over the weekend.
She hasn't lost a match yet this season, compiling a perfect 20-0 record.
That's pretty impressive considering this is her first time playing tennis at Shawnee Mission East.
Sneed has focused most of her time on her club team, and didn't give high school tennis a shot until now.
"I'm thankful for my coaches at KC United Tennis. They've been so supportive of me and have helped me get that 20-0 record", Sneed said.
The 18-year-old has already won several Missouri Valley Tennis Association titles and is ranked in the Top 20
Shawnee Mission East Head Coach Sue Chipman said she's happy to have Sneed on her squad.
"It really ensures our chances to win state a lot more than if she hadn't been here. And she's a nice girl. We enjoy her and we're glad she's part of our team," Chipman said.
Sneed heads to Maize South this weekend to compete for her first state title.
