Shawnee Mission Northwest Senior Girls Basketball standout Brenni Rose is quite the commodity these days.

The Lady Cougars Forward averaged 21 points per game in two Kansas Class 6A Sub-State tournament games. She scored 18 points against Wyandotte, followed by a 24 point, 11 rebound and 5 assist performance against Olathe Northwest.

Not only did her performance help Shawnee Mission Northwest punch a ticket to their third straight state tournament in Wichita, it also earned her this week's Hy-Vee 41 Five-Star Athlete of the Week.

Most of all, she hopes to help her team get their first-ever state championship.

"I think that would just be the icing on the cake," Brenni said. " You know, we haven't really had a girls basketball state championship. And, I think that would be really exciting for our [Senior] class to be the one to bring it back."

Shawnee Mission Northwest honored Brenni last week, during halftime of the Cougars Boys Basketball game. She eclipsed the 1,000th point and 500th rebound mark and became the All-Time Lady Cougars Leading Scorer.  And, Brenni will play Women's Basketball for Division I Drake University this fall.

This is Tyler Stewart's second year as Shawnee Mission Northwest Girls Basketball Head Coach. It certainly didn't take long for him to realize that she's the heart and soul of the Lady Cougars team.

"She's a great competitor. And, she's the one that lifts up and brings our kids to her level of competitiveness," Stewart said. "She wants to win. And, she's gonna do anything she can for the team to get us to that - to a victory."

Her father is Cougars Boys Basketball Head Coach Mike Rose. Brenni attributes her success to her coaches, including her father. But, she also says her teammates have been very supportive in her growth.

"I've been blessed with really good teammates. You know, when I was younger, they all really pushed me and they kind of knew the potential I had. And so, they never let me have anything easy. So, I've really been grateful for that."
