Slow and steady wins the race.

That might have been the message that Bishop Miege Head Coach Jon Holmes told his team after their 38-7 win at Gardner Edgerton on Friday.

Of course, Holmes most likely gave his troops a message that they could understand in football terms; keep pushing and good things will happen.

"We told our kids at the half, we had three offensive possessions and three touchdowns and we wanted to keep that up," said Jon. " We came out and we got stopped there. But, we drove the ball and our kids just kept fighting."

Bishop Miege bounced back and beat the Trailblazers exactly one week after suffering a heartbreaking 35-28 loss, on the road, at Blue Valley. They played their second straight road game. It was one where Gardner Edgerton came out very efficient in their very first drive of the game by scoring on diving touchdown by Blazers Running Back Hunter Skeens.

The Stags came right back on their very first drive to score on an 18-yard touchdown run by Junior Quarterback Carter Putz. It was an impressive play that saw Putz avoid taking a sack and bouncing off of defenders before finding his way into the end zone.

"I just dropped back to pass. [They] kind of got a rush up the middle and I tried to run outside, look for a receiver. I just saw some green and I just kind of went for it and it ended up being pretty good," said Putz.

Bishop Miege (1-1) will play their first home game of the season next Friday against St. Thomas Aquinas. Gardner Edgerton (0-2) will travel to St. James Academy on Friday night as well.
