ST. LOUIS - Several Kansas City area high school football teams are competing for state championships this weekend.

The Maryville Spoofhounds kicked things off on a positive note Friday afternoon in the Show-Me Bowl state football championships at the Edwards Jones Dome in St. Louis. Maryville sophomore running back Brody McMahon put on a show, helping the Spoofhounds gain 283 rushing yards in the first half. He had 65 and 59-yard touchdown runs.

The Spoofhounds took a 21-10 halftime lead and held on for an impressive 35-22 victory in the Missouri Class 3 state championship game. John Burroughs entered the game ranked No. 1 in the state, while Maryville ranked No. 2.

Former St. Louis Rams Quarterback Gus Frerotte is the head coach at John Burroughs, who featured three top-level prospects. One of them included senior running back Ezekiel Elliott. He's committed to Ohio State.
