Overland Park swimmer Shannon Vreeland qualifies for 2012 Olympics

OMAHA, Neb. - Shannon Vreeland came in fifth in the 200-meter freestyle at the U.S. swimming trials on Thursday night, making the cut to be taken to London as a potential relay swimmer.

Vreeland is from Overland Park, Kan.

Another local competitor, Bobby Bollier of Mission Hills, Kan., came in third in the 200-meter butterfly, losing out on a spot on Team USA by just six-tenths of a second.

Bollier beat Michael Phelps in the semifinals on Wednesday night.

Both Vreeland and Bollier were members of the Kansas City Blazers, a local swimming club.
