The U.S. women’s soccer team won the World Cup last year. They have won the last three Olympic gold medals.
Heading into the 2016 Olympics, they face the reality that no World Cup Champion has ever gone on to win the gold medal in the following Olympics.
“We know, for sure, that the Olympics are not going to be easy,” Julie Johnston said. “We know there’s very good teams and we have our work cut out for us too, and our ultimate goal, you know, is you want to win. You want to get the gold.”
