KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It's social media night at the Royals game and Royals are asking fans to tweet #RoyalsSocial. But behind that hashtag is the compassion of fans for one of their own.
For social media night, the Royals are asking fans to follow the team on Twitter and like them on Facebook. They'll get good tickets, prizes and exclusive Royals shades.
Still, there's a bigger story. When the Now KC searched for the hashtag "Royals Social," they came across this: #RoyalswinforTim.
After a bit of digging, we found a Go Fund Me page for a man named Tim Grimes.
As it turns out, Grimes is a 28-year-old Royals super fan who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma cancer. The cancer has spread to his lungs, liver and spine.
The page, created by his friend Matt Fuson, hopes to raise $100,000 to pay for Grimes' medical expenses.
"Tim has a great deal of friends and family supporting him, but he currently has no health insurance and he needs our help now more than ever," the page says. "The cost of surgery and ongoing treatment is going to be a tremendous financial burden for Tim and his family."
Grimes underwent surgery to remove the cancer and he is scheduled for chemotherapy and treatment.
