KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kansas City's Livestrong Park will be the site for the 2013 MLS All-Star game, according to Sporting KC and Major League Soccer officials.
The league's commissioner was in town Thursday to make the announcement. The MLS All Star game is played July 31 and will be televised on ESPN and Univsion. The All Star game will be MLS players vs. a world player in soccer.
Don Garber said the Kansas City market has been exciting for Major League Soccer. He said Kansas City is one of the great success stories of the sport. Garber announced Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes would coach the MLS all stars.
The MLS started in 1996. When the league started, Garber said they knew they needed a team in Kansas City. He said the ownership has played a big role in the success of Sporting KC. Garber also thanked Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Joe Reardon for his help in making the team and stadium a success.
