KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Sporting KC fans piled into Sporting Park not only for the 2 p.m. game, but also to welcome back World Cup contenders Graham Zusi and Matt Besler.
“They definitely represented Sporting KC well,” fan Jamie McNeely said. “Obviously, there’s a lot of interest in them now.”
That interest extends across the globe.
Besler reportedly has three options to transfer to other teams, some in Europe.
“In the position that I’m in right now, you may only get this opportunity once in a lifetime, so I feel the need to look into potential opportunities,” Besler said.
Besler told reporters he dreams of finishing his career in KC, and his future remains a mystery.
“I’m under contract with Sporting. They have a right to sell me if they want they have a right to keep me if they want. Hopefully we have enough respect that we work together through everything,” Besler said.
Fans promise to cheer on the KC native wherever he plays.
“He should go; we support him,” fan Kevin Doyle said. “You’d see a ton of Besler jerseys here, whatever team he went for.”
