South Kansas City continues to grow as more organizations relocated to the area and that's got some leaders asking how they can provide better resources for the community.
Careers are coming to south Kansas City and with each person who relocates to the area, brings a greater need for infrastructure.
One resource families often cite at the top of their list is education.
On Thursday, the South Kansas City Alliance brought schools, colleges, vocational schools and employers together to talk about their needs and goals ahead of the south KC boom.
"The purpose of today is to promote the educational organizations and institutions within south Kansas City," said Ebony Bowman with SKCA. "Right here at MCC Longview, we are doing lots of great things that are educating students not just for a four year degree but for the workforce. We want to make sure people know about these opportunities."
One surprising tidbit to come out of the meeting -- the need for skilled workers like electricians, construction workers and welders.
If south KC and the metro as a whole wants to continue to grow, employers need workers to fill these types of jobs -- but there aren't enough students getting training right now.
