Fatal accident closes K-7 in Bonner Springs for more than 4 hours

BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. - A crossover accident Wednesday morning killed one person, injured another and had closed both directions of K-7 in Bonner Springs for about five hours.

It happened at about 8:10 a.m. at Kansas Avenue.

According to the Kansas State Highway Patrol, a woman was driving in the southbound lanes, lost control and crossed into the northbound lanes.

A northbound vehicle struck the woman's vehicle.

The woman died on the scene, authorities said. She was later identified as 29-year-old Tamara Starnes of Easton, Kan.

The other driver was treated for injuries on the scene.

Northbound traffic was immediately closed from Nettleton Road to Kansas Avenue. Shortly into the investigation, authorities closed southbound lanes from Commercial Drive to Kansas Avenue.

All lanes remained closed until just before 12:45 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
