KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation has a message for you.
The department will start using a long range acoustical device (LRAD) in hopes that it will get your attention when crews are working on the road. Drivers would hear one second of the alarm and a message to slow down.
“The problem we’re having is people on their phones and not looking where they should and so we have some of our trucks lit up like Christmas trees and people still don’t look,” one MODOT worker said.
The LRAD will mainly be used in mobile work zones with crews who perform tasks like striping roadways.
