KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two lanes of traffic on northbound US 71 Highway are now getting by after a rush-hour wreck that snarled the morning commute.
The wreck involved four vehicles, and happened about 6:35 a.m. just north of Bannister Road in the northbound lanes. That's just past where US 71, I-435 and I-470 merge at what used to be known as the Grandview Triangle.
At 7:15 a.m., authorities were diverting traffic off NB 71 at I-435, where drivers can go north to 87th Street and west back to 71 Highway.
One person was extricated from a vehicle. That person was said to have serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The other direction of traffic was also briefly closed while authorities cleared a wreck in the southbound lanes right at Bannister, but traffic was moving against just a few minutes later.
By 7:50 a .m., two lanes of traffic were getting by in the northbound lanes. It was slow-going, but the backup was starting to decline.
