KCHD: Man's death may be heat-related

5 potential heat deaths this year; 1 confirmed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Health Department is reporting another potentially heat-related death on the Missouri side of the metro.

The latest is a man born in 1965. Authorities do not release any additional information about potential heat deaths until later on in the investigation, when an official cause of death has been released.

Five other deaths this summer were announced as potentially heat-related.

One of those previous deaths has been confirmed to be heat-related. On Friday, June 21, health department officials confirmed Sharon Hendrix' death to be heat-related.

Hendrix was found dead earlier this year after mowing her yard. It was 91 degrees that day.

The four others from earlier this summer, and the one announced Tuesday, remain under investigation.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner confirmed a total of 43 heat-related deaths from 2007 to 2012. Thirty-one of those have occurred in the last two years, with 21 in 2011 and 10 more last year.
