Metro residents try to beat the heat in first 90-degree day of 2014

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - In hot and humid weather like Wednesday’s, it’s important to stay hydrated which is why Sporting KC fans will be able to bring on water bottle into tonight’s match. However, the bottle can’t be larger than 20 ounces and must be sealed.

Andres Gutierrez spent the afternoon at Stonegate Pool in Overland Park where dozens of all ages frolicked in the water and went down the spiraling water slide trying to stay cool.

The city’s seven pools are now open to the public and a staff of 300 workers, including lifeguards, is on hand to keep people safe at their locations.

“Some people think it’s hot, but it’s not as bad as late July, early August when it gets up to the 100s,” supervisor of Overland Park Aquatic Renee Reis said.
