FEB. 13, 2012 - A snow plow gets ready to head out from a salt barn at I-35 and Lamar.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Winter is almost upon us, and the Missouri Department of Transportation is getting ready.
MODOT held its first state-wide winter operations drill Wednesday. During the drill, MODOT activated its emergency operations center.
The department also deployed snowplows across routes in response to a simulated snowstorm.
"I hope that it makes the public aware we're out here," said Tim Arnold from MODOT. "And they yield to us. And we're ready to combat a storm when a storm does happen."
MODOT spends about $42 Million every year to keep the roads clear.
