A mother and her son tell their story of survival when a tornado struck Harveyville.

HARVEYVILLE, Kan. - Melody Dayhoff says her 11-year-old son Dalton is her hero.
When the storm hit Harveyville , he grabbed her and dragged her into the pantry to take cover.
The tornado blew out their windows and took part of their roof. But they are happy to be alive.

According to the NWS, initial estimates put the twister at about 100 yards wide with a nearly-mile-long path. Winds reached about 130 mph.
The Wabaunsee County Sheriff said about 40 percent of the town, about 90 miles southwest of Kansas City, was severely damaged.
