When severe weather hits, do you have a plan to keep you and your family safe?
The state of Missouri and the National Weather Service is giving you a chance to practice Tuesday as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
A statewide tornado drill will be held at 1:30 p.m. The NWS hopes schools, businesses and residents participate.
The NWS reminds people that the safest shelter location is in the lowest level of a building or an interior room without windows.
"If you wait until the severe weather hits, you often don't have a lot of time to get into safety," NWS Meteorologist Julie Adolphson said. "So if you already know where you're going to be or if your family members are going to be in the event of severe weather, then when it does happen you're ready to go and you're prepared."
