Snow Men smile on their good fortune as they clear the Plaza

Snow removal company hopes there are more storms

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - They had the skid loaders, spreaders and plows ready and waiting. But in the end, most of them weren't needed.

Wednesday's winter storm didn't pack much of a punch, leaving just an inch of snow on the Country Club Plaza when all was said and done. Snow Men, the company in charge of Plaza snow removal, mobilized for a much bigger storm. But by the time the snow moved out of Kansas City, the company was just glad to have some work to do.

Last year, business was way down as Kansas City set a record-low snowfall. This year hasn't been great for business, but it's still an improvement.  Two years ago, Snow Men was tasked with removing piles of snow from the Plaza that towered over their trucks.

The company's operations manager said he was ready for the next storm of 2013 as he lingered on Nichols Road after the storm to make sure his crews treated remaining slick spots.

"We've got to make sure that the drains aren't running over the sidewalk freezing," Brett Bush said, adding that his workers would also treat spots where snow falls off parked cars and freezes on the pavement.

The company also treats many Plaza parking lots.
