KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two of the three lanes of Interstate 35 near Cambridge Circle and Southwest Boulevard is back open after a fiery crash during the morning rush hour on Tuesday.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. when a tractor trailer overturned and burst into flames.
Police Sgt. Deb Randol told 41 Action News the driver was able to crawl out of the cab through the front window. Minor injuries were reported.
Witnesses going northbound told police it appeared the driver’s load – a big piece of concrete slab – had shifted. The truck flipped on its side and slid down the highway until it caught fire.
Randol said six cars traveling northbound were damaged from flying concrete debris that flew through their windshields. Those drivers are okay.
One northbound lane was getting by the scene for about an hour. All northbound lanes reopened at 8 a.m.
The truck has been towed, and now engineers will need to inspect the highway once the debris is removed.
