Police enforce red light cameras during winter weather

KANSAS CITY, Missouri - Kansas City police want to remind you they’re still enforcing the red light cameras.

During the recent snow, drivers have had trouble stopping because of the slick roads.

However police say drivers just need to slow down and be prepared to stop - no matter what.

"The whole idea is to prevent accidents and if your light is red, somebody else's light is green, you have the responsibility to stop,” said Capt. Steve Young with the Kansas City Police Department.

Since cameras were installed, tickets for running red lights have dropped 58 percent.

Tickets are at least $100 dollars.

There are 29 cameras in 18 intersections throughout the city.
