Best and worst airlines for holiday travel

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Monday marks one of the busiest days of the year at Kansas City International Airport as travelers make their way to holiday destinations.

Christmas and New Year's tend to pose big challenges for our nation's airlines: a combination of winter weather, additional passengers and lots of baggage make it tougher for airlines to meet schedules.

Forbes Magazine released its list of the airlines on the nice and naughty list, based upon how often the airlines tend to cancel or delay flights and how often they lose travelers luggage.

One-quarter of flights around Christmas last year were delayed over the last three years, according to the Bureau of Travel Statistics.

Making the ‘nice' list this year is Hawaiian Airlines, Air Tran and US Airways. Those airlines had the fewest delays, putting them on Forbes best airlines list.

Coming in worst place, or the ‘naughty' list, is Frontier Airlines, with more delays than any other US airline. Southwest is also in the bottom of that list.

American and Delta ranked near the middle of the pack.

Across the country, 44 million people will fly for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
