KANSAS CITY, Kan. - It all started with the driver of a red Camaro doing doughnuts in a parking lot near 59th and Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan.
"Officers went to make contact with the driver, at which time the driver accelerated towards one of the officers," Officer Patrick McCallop said.
The police officer shot at the driver just seconds before he pinned her between his car and another vehicle.
HT cooperwood owns HT's Barbersho and he witnessed the entire incident. He says police pulled drugs from the suspect's vehicle.
"He looks familiar but I don't really know him," Cooperwood said.
Police say they're waiting for test results to determine the substance.
"They tested that substance to see if it was marijuana or not. I'm not sure what the results of that test are," Cooperwood said.
The suspect and the police officer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators collected evidence at the scene for several hours as HR reassured his customers.
"It's very disturbing. We got kids in there, we were working, we are busy. And like I said this is one of our busy days," Cooperwood said.
Officers on patrol drove by a Cenex convenience store and noticed a vehicle driving erratically in the parking lot. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated toward the officers, pinning one officer against another car.
According to a news release, one officer fired his gun, striking the suspect.
Both the officer and the suspect were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
