Kansas City man charged with killing woman, dumping body in trash

Suspect allegedly strangled his female victim

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City man has been charged with strangling a woman to death and dumping her body in a trash can across the street from the murder scene.

Quelin E. Perciado, 50, was charged Sunday with second-degree murder in connection with the death Friday of 40-year-old Wanda Benenhaley. Benenhaley's body was found Friday evening in a trash can behind a vacant house at 2245 Poplar Ave.

According to court records, a witness told police they were drinking with Perciado and Benenhaley in the 2300 block of Poplar Avenue when they saw Perciado beat and strangle Benenhaley to death. Perciado then placed her body in a trash can and dragged it across the street, the witness said.

After the witness contacted authorities, police went looking for Perciado, but he was not located and taken into custody until early Saturday evening.

Perciado was being held Sunday night in the Jackson County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
