KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Wilder Road in Shawnee was closed Wednesday morning near its junction with Holliday Drive after a semitrailer crashed and spilled some of its load.

Shawnee police said a pickup truck hit the semi near a railroad bridge around 7:15 a.m. A train on the bridge was temporarily blocked until officials determined the bridge was not affected by the crash.

Fuel was leaking from the fuel gauge of the truck, not the fuel the semi was carrying, according to police. The tank holds about 150 gallons, and 40 to 50 gallons spilled onto the roadway.

Crews were able to stop the leak before any fuel entered the nearby waterways of Mill Creek and the Kansas River.

Officials from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Shawnee Stormwater Management Program were called to the scene to monitor cleanup.

The city asked drivers to avoid Holliday Drive and Wilder Road between West 47th Street and Woodland Drive to Interstate 435 while crews worked.

Police reopened the road shortly before 11 a.m.
