Fundraiser scheduled for KC doctor who lost his practice in the Plaza explosion

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A fundraiser will be held for the doctor who lost his medical practice during February's Plaza explosion.

Some may remember Dr. John Verstrate as the owner of Perceus , the dog who ran away during the chaos of the explosion.

His office, the Plaza Physicians Association, was right next door to JJ's restaurant. There have been many fundraisers for the restaurant, but Saturday the first fundraiser for the medical practice will be held.

Patty Nast Canton is organizing the event and donations will go to replace everything that was lost.

"When you go to replace medical equipment that's 10 years old, the cost is obviously more than the insurance can cover fully," Nast Canton said.

The fundraiser for Plaza Physicians Fund is Saturday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Social on McGee Street.
