Home a total loss after fire in Smithville

SMITHVILLE, Mo. -- A house in the Harborview Subdivision is a total loss after a large fire Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the area of NE 180th and Marina Dr. around 1 p.m. When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage of a home.

The fire eventually spread through the home as crews worked to contain and extinguish the flames.

By the time the fire was put out, the home was a total loss. No one was injured in the fire.

The Red Cross was called to assist the family living in the home, but the homeowner declined.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
