RAYTOWN, Mo. — There seems to be a new target when it comes to firearms sales.

A recent study shows more women are packing heat.

"Guns are really not quite as scary once you know how they operate, how to operate them, how they function," said Maggie Henehan with Blue Steel Guns & Ammo.

Every day, more women are picking up guns and learning how to shoot for the very first time. That was Henehan until three years ago.

"I never thought this would be at all what I would be doing in the least. This is not where I would have seen myself," said Henehan.

Henehan works at Blue Steel Guns & Ammo in Raytown, Missouri. She's teaching others about gun safety, especially women.

"Yes, I think more ladies are becoming more interested in shooting," said Henehan.

According to the Pew Research Center, one in five women reports they own a gun in the United States. Many are signing up for training classes to prepare for something that hopefully never happens.

Blue Steel Guns & Ammo also helps rookies learn how to shoot and carry through training courses.

Henehan said out of all of the training sessions they give, women seem to be the better shooters. Henehan said it's because women pay more attention to instruction and detail.
