New Huddle House restaurant spices up Westport redevelopment

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Developers are moving ahead with a plan to make Kansas City's Westport area more family and environmentally friendly.

Huddle House is a new 24-hour restaurant at 39th and Broadway that is part of a new development initiative aimed at bringing in new tenants to the area. The restaurant's space was most recently occupied by a check cashing business.

The restaurant, which is set to open in January, does not plan to serve alcohol in an appeal to families. The developer is hopeful to add more housing as part of the $21 million project.

"We've already been approved by the city with tax abatement for 120 apartments right behind Central and 40th Street," developer Ahmed Awad said.

Awad is hoping to break ground on the apartment project early 2013.
