KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For months, the Overland Park father plans and prepares — all to make sure his family’s over-the-top light display is perfect.

“It started out as I just wanted to win the competition and it’s just grown into this now,” he said. “I can’t stop it just has to get bigger and bigger every year.”

The display located near College and Antioch features flashing lights that are synced to music. The show runs about 25 minutes long.

“It is very impressive, the best one I have seen in town,” said Bobby Ballesteros, who watched with his family in their car.

“Each pixel is perfectly laid by me, everything is zip-tied in place,” said Hall. “It’s one of a kind.”

But this Christmas, the family’s display is a little more special. Not only are the lights brightening the neighborhood but serving as a teaching tool, too.

“This is the first year I got to program my own song,” said Hall’s daughter, Alayna.

Alayna is 11-years-old. This year, she picked out music, synchronized the lights and designed the movement all on her own.

“I actually want to be a robotics teacher when I grow up. I like technology, I can sometimes fix it,” she said.

The lights will remain up until the first or second week of December. During the weeknights, the display plays until 10 p.m., during the weekends they play until midnight. The family welcomes anyone to stop by.
