Shoppers rush to beat approaching winter storm

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - On the Country Club Plaza Friday night, holiday shoppers rushed to complete their gift-buying before a winter storm expected to hit on Saturday dumps snow on the final shopping days before Christmas.

"I have two stores left to go to and then I'm completely done," Haley Snider said, out shopping on the Plaza on Friday. "A couple more stops and we'll be done."

Others had more work to do.

"I usually wait until the absolute last minute and then I run in and just buy like a crazy person," Darryl Eckman said, a volunteer bell-ringer for the Salvation Army.

In the new HMK store, shoppers perused cards and ornaments over warm snickerdoodle cookies and the store's manager said business was booming.

"We have been crazy busy. Lots of giftwrapping. Lots of last minute purchases," Leslie Anderson said. "Lots of last minute shoppers. I think it's going to be manic for the weekend."
