KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two new businesses open near 18th and Vine as the city invests millions to redevelop the area.

Ronald Chaney owns Ethnic Art Gallery. He had a soft opening on Friday night to welcome people to his gallery. He said he's looking forward to opening his business in the Jazz District.

"Over the years, I've kind of watched the area grow to the point where I wanted to get back here," said Chaney.

Armon Lasker is also making his vision a reality on 18th and Vine. He moved his barber shop, Director's Cut, to the area after his business flooded along 103rd Street.

"The district's doing a lot of things in the area so we'll have more people coming down to the area," said Lasker.

In 2016, the city allocated $7 million to transform the Jazz District into a mixed-use entertainment and residential district.
