Uncovered: Lee's Summit soccer coach charged with taping girls has history of peeping

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. - The Lee's Summit soccer coach charged with recording naked underage girls has been accused of peeping before.

Federal prosecutors in MIssouri on Tuesday charged Joel White, 41, with attempted production of child pornography. He allegedly recorded several 12- and 13-year-old girls without their knowledge while they were undressing in his home. White also admitted to inappropriately touching an 11- or 12-year-old girl while she was asleep at his house, according to police.

But this isn't the first time White has been accused of peeping.

41 Action News has uncovered that White was caught spying on a woman in an Olathe, Kan., tanning salon in 2008.

On stories like this, we always look into the background of the accused. First, we searched Missouri -- White was only on record for a few traffic tickets. Then we checked Kansas, and a trespassing charge came up. While at first, that wouldn't necessarily raise any red flags, our team kept digging and discovered the original charge involved peeping in 2007.

The Joel White in this case matches the age and a previous address of the Joel White accused of child pornography. According to court documents, White reached a plea agreement in the case in 2008. The charge went from eavesdropping at a tanning salon to just trespassing. If that original charge had not been knocked down, it might have kept him from coaching.

Many people who live in White's Lee's Summit neighborhood on 7th Terrace are still reeling from this week's arrest. One neighbor, who doesn't want to be identified because he has children, said White hosted pool parties for young girls at his home last year -- some going as late as 3 a.m.

"It always struck me as kind of odd that he was out swimming with all the girls until super late in the morning," the neighbor said.

White is currently still in federal custody, and prosecutors want to hold him without bond. He's scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
