Missing woman's body found inside burned-out car

CAMERON, Missouri - Cameron police say a missing woman’s body was found inside a burned-out car late Friday morning.

The family of 36-year-old Angela Newsom reported her missing in Chillicothe two days ago. Friday, police found her body inside of burned vehicle near Old U.S. 36 and Bob Griffin Road, just east of Interstate 35 in Cameron.

A passerby saw the fire in a field off Bob Griffin Road.

Shawn Griffin, 39 of Cameron, was arrested for her murder Friday evening. He has been charged with second-degree murder.

Family friends said the two were dating. Newsom was raising three children. Family and friends gathered at the scene Friday. Several different police agencies worked on this case.

"Certainly we have made an arrest, but now we have to make sure we haven’t overlooked any evidence that is out there and that is what's nice about the major case squad it brings a lot of manpower," said Sgt. Sheldon Lyon.

Officers haven't released a motive in this case. Griffin is in the Clinton County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
