Family member describes 3-hour torture in violent Grandview home invasion

GRANDVIEW, Mo. - A family is urging anyone with information about a home invasion in Grandview to come forward. They say four people were tortured, burned, and one woman raped for several hours all while a 2-year-old child was in the home.

One family member told 41 Action News the men inside were zip-tied up. Pillowcases were put over their heads, and they were burned from head to toe. The torture went on for more than three hours.

"This is something you see on TV; something that's not real, that's a movie," Pamela Sims said, describing the horrific details of a home invasion at her sister's home.

Sims described, "They heard someone coming in from the back bedroom window. My nephew jumped up, and they came out with guns; they had guns all at them."

The masked suspects broke into the home at 2 a.m. and stayed for more than three and one-half hours, torturing the four people inside.

"There's blood everywhere. There's not a spot of blood -- walls, floors, blood everywhere," Sims explained.

Police say three men were tied up and burned with hot grease. A 21-year-old woman was raped on the floor below them.

Neighbors came out Sunday to offer their support. They're unsure how anyone could do these things.

"It's sad; it's sad. It makes me wonder what type of world we're living in. They don't deserve this. No one deserves this. It's frightening," said neighbor Tammie Rivera.

Sims said her nephew and brother-in-law were two of the men tortured inside, and that they know who attacked them.

"They have nice things; they know these people," Sims said. "The people who did this know them."

Sims and her family are determined to make sure the criminals are caught.

"They're sick," she said. "They're absolutely, positively sick."

One person was able to escape to a neighbor's home and get help. The suspects took off with one of their cars. Police found that car but have not found those responsible.
