Kansas veteran Milburn Kelley Jr.'s ashes found safe in rural Miami County

OSAWATOMIE, Kan. - Osawatomie authorities said the ashes of a veteran, stolen on April 23, were recovered Friday.

Assistant Chief Bob Butters said the urn and ashes were found in rural Miami County, and that the ashes are intact.

Authorities are still investigating who may have stolen the ashes out of a truck three weeks after Milburn Kelley III's father died.

The truck was parked in front of Kelley's home overnight on April 23. Someone broke in and stole two rifles, a cleaning kit and a wallet along with the ashes.

The family's ultimate goal is to bury Kelley Jr. at the family cemetery near Garnett.
