Alex Rodriguez suspended through 2014

NEW YORK - Major League Baseball announced Monday Yankees star Alex Rodriguez will be suspended through 2014, pending an appeal.

Rodriguez was planning on joining his team for Monday's game against the Chicago White Sox after a rehab stint in the minor leagues.

The suspension comes after a performance-enhancing drug scandal rocked the baseball community.

MLB also handed out suspensions to 12 other players, all of which were given 50-game bans. The 12 players have accepted their suspensions.

Other offenders of the MLB drug policy include Rangers' outfielder Nelson Cruz, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo and Mets outfielder Jordany Valdespin.

Local baseball lovers at the Mac N. Seitz baseball center said they're fed up with the local round of scandals.

"It just keeps happening and happening and they just get slapped on the hand. But now, maybe finally the Major League Baseball and the union will come together and say enough is enough," fan Suzette Kollman said.

Some coaches say they will use these scandals to teach a lesson in good judgement to their players.
