Eric Hosmer looks to bounce back after last year

SURPRISE, Ariz. - The sophomore slump hit Eric Hosmer hard last season. His offensive numbers plummeted.

"It was just a bad year."

A small mechanical issue with his swing gradually became a big problem, according to hitting coach Jack Maloof.

"He got more frustrated. He certainly got deeper into trouble. He found himself not knowing what to do and where he was at."

So, Hosmer attacked the problem this offseason. He put a batting cage in his house in Florida and sent tapes of his swing to Maloof.

"I just wanted to stay simple again with my approach. Just let my hands do the work. Basically, that's what I want to do. Keep it as simple as possible."

The Royals believe Hosmer has ironed out his swing. They plan to put him back in the middle of the order. So, they are counting on a bounce-back season from the 23-year old.

"That's why you put the work in in the offseason. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't be here right now. The main thing is help this team win. That's what I want to do."
