Three starters ruled out for the Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Chiefs will be missing at least three starters in Tampa. Matt Cassel, Glenn Dorsey and Peyton Hillis have all been ruled out.

Head Coach Romeo Crennel had announced that Cassel would miss the game earlier in the week. Brady Quinn will make his first start in three years.

The Chiefs are getting a little thin at running back. Hillis is out with an ankle injury. Shaun Draughn has his own ankle injury. He is listed as "probable."

Meanwhile, Cyrus Gray missed the past two days of practice with an illness. Crennel admitted his running back group was getting smaller by the day.

"Yes it is, but the thing is that Shaun," Crennel said. "I think he's got enough toughness that he'll be able to tough it out. Gray, I think that we still have a couple days to get him back. Hopefully, he'll be able to help us, too."

The Chiefs are also thin on the defensive line. Dorsey has a calf injury. Ropati Pitoitua has an elbow injury. He is considered "questionable." Crennel said rookie Dontari Poe is one of the players that will be counted on to fill in the gap.

"With guys being down, he has to play more," Crennel said. "He's representing himself very well."

There was one piece of good news on the injury report. Kendrick Lewis has been upgraded to "probable" this week. He has missed the entire season with a shoulder injury.

"He's been working. We'll probably have him in there and give him some opportunities to see how he does. How much he plays, I'm not sure. We'll put him in there."

The Chiefs play at Tampa on Sunday at noon.
