Dalvin Warmack named most outstanding high school football player of the year in KC metro

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - The winner of the most outstanding high school football player in the Kansas City metropolitan area goes to Dalvin Warmack, who led the Blue Springs Wildcats to a state title and a 13-1 record. Warmack won the 41 Action Sports HyVee Athlete of the Week award earlier this season.

He's just the second junior to win the Simone Award. Nathan Scheelhaase of Rockhurst also won the award as a junior for Rockhurst in 2007. Warmack beat out finalists Trent Hosick of Staley, Steve McBee of Fort Osage and Brad Strauss of Lawrence.

The Blue Springs running back rushed for nearly 2,300 yards and a school-record 40 touchdown. He set three new single-game school records by rushing for 415 yards and six touchdowns and catching a 50-yard TD in an 84-62 win against Lee's Summit.

Warmack is the fourth player from Blue Springs to win the Simone Award. He's the first since Ladell Betts in 1996.

Here are the other award winners from Tuesday's event:

The winner of the 14th Annual Frank Fontana Award, given to the most outstanding small class (MO 1-4, KS 1A-4A) football player in the metro, was Max Mickey of Holden.

The winner of the 21st Annual Buck Buchanan Memorial Award, presented by the Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors and given to the best lineman/linebacker in Missouri's and Kansas' top two classes (MO 5-6, KS 5A-6A), was Elijah Lee of Blue Springs.

The 2nd Annual Nathan Stiles Inspiration Award was presented to Max Galeassi, a senior linebacker from Harrisonville who battled testicular cancer in June before leading Harrisonville to the Class 4 semi-finals.
