Missouri Cold Weather Rule takes effect on Nov. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Missouri's Cold Weather Rule is going into effect on Thursday, Nov. 1, meaning utility companies cannot shut off heat-related services when temperatures drop below 32 degrees for 24 hours.

The rule also means utilities cannot disconnect services for elderly or disabled customers who meet certain income qualifications and make minimum payments.

This applies to utilities under the jurisdiction of the Missouri Public Service Commission. Other municipally-operated systems, cooperatives and propane delivered by truck are not a part of this rule.
