Warrensburg snow totals reach 2 feet

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - As cities across Kansas and Missouri dig out, people in Warrensburg may be digging a little deeper. Tuesday's snow totals left some in town with a total of 2 feet when added on top of the first snowfall.

"It's just been a rough week," Warrensburg superintendent Scott Patrick said. "We were in session Monday and since then, of course we haven't been and we've already canceled school for (Thursday)."

Warrensburg students will now be in the classroom until May 23. But 2 feet of snow is troublesome for more than just students.

The roof of the warehouse at Arwood's Furniture split open Tuesday morning, spilling snow onto the floor below. Most of the merchandise was spared, and marketing manager Bill Gudde said insurance will cover the damage.

"The biggest loss, of course, is the loss of business. Our employees can't come to work, so of course these are people who are depending on their paycheck, and then, of course, our customers who can't get their furniture," Gudde said.

He hopes to have Arwood's open by the end of the week.
