"Blithe Spirit" mixes comedy and ghostly effects

Posted

It’s one of Noel Coward’s classic “comedy of manners”- type comedies and it’s a theatrical mainstay. Inside KansasCityActors Theatre kicks off their 14th season with “Blithe Spirit”. The dark comedy is the story of a writer (played by Coleman Crenshaw) who hires a psychic as a lark as research for a book and he ends up encountering the unexpected – the ghost of his first wife (Vanessa Severo)! This is much to the chagrin of his very alive second wife (Cinnamon Schultz). It was written, in part, to distract people from WWII and it set a long-run record on the West End in London when it premiered in the 1940’s. It’s a fun mix of wit, comedy, and ghostly effects.
