September is an off month for shopping: We're done with back to school buying.
And most people are now saving up for the holiday season.
But that's why it can be a great time to shop.
Shop now for anything outdoorsy
The savings website DealNews.com has just released its list of what to buy and not buy during the month of September.
It says shop now for anything outdoorsy, especially patio furniture, grills, and yard equipment. About the only outdoor items not on markdown are fire pits, because they are big sellers for the fall.
And Apple products are also about to go on markdown in a major way, right after Apple's big September 10th announcement.
What to Buy in September
-Deal News says with the expected release of the iPhone 5s, look for discounts on the iPhone 4s, and 5, in about 2 weeks.
-The older iPad will soon be marked down.
-It's also a great month to buy a 2013 car, with the new 2014's now arriving. Some dealerships are offering as much as $3,000 below sticker price on some 2013 models.
-Deal news says Levis and other blue jeans typically go on sale in September.
-And look for patio furniture as much as 60% off in the next few weeks.
What to Wait on
Deal News says you may find bigger savings in October and November on a number of items, if you can hold off.
-Fall clothing is now at full price, so this is not the best time of year to buy coats and long sleeve fashion (Not that you would want a winter coat now, anyway).
-Deal News does not expect major sales on kitchen appliances in September, with the exception of Labor Day sales.
But you may find individual appliance sales, so it still pays to check around, and watch for ads for specific stores. Big markdowns on appliances typically come in November, for Black Friday.
The same goes for furniture: you may find some great Labor Day sales.
