LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- A Leavenworth man is accused of beating a dog and burning it with a propane torch.
According to court records, Leavenworth police were called to a home in the 600 block of Shawnee St. on Feb. 19 on a report of animal abuse.
When an officer arrived, he noticed a smell of burning hair in the home.
The officer spoke to Lemuel Hunter, 57, at the apartment. Hunter said he didn't like the dog, the dog doesn't like him and the dog growls at him.
According to the report, earlier that day Lemuel says he punched the dog on the head three times.
Later on, Lemuel said he was walking to his shop with a board in his hand and the dog started growling at him from a cage.
Lemuel reportedly went into his shop, grabbed a hand-held propane torch and went to the dog's cage. He proceeded to burn the dogs face, nose and bottom of her jaw.
